Designed by company president Norvina Soare, Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina eyeshadow palette contains 14 beautiful shades that can create almost any eye look.
Described as “whimsical and carefree”, this palette contains both cool and warm shades evocative of summer but that can be adapted to any season. Each eyeshadow is 0.02oz/0.74g in volume. ABH Norvina retails for $45 and can be found at Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, or through the Anastasia Beverly Hills website.
Shades
Norvina’s color story is unique. Many palettes feature either colorful or neutral shades. Instead, Norvina offers both.
While this would be a risky choice in any other palette, Norvina manages to pull it off. Not only are each of the shades combinable to create distinctive looks, Norvina is also the only palette I’ve ever used that can create multiple different toned looks without the need to use colors from different eyeshadow palettes. You can create a pink, brown, orange, and purple eyeshadow look using a single product. I have yet to find another eyeshadow palette that is as versatile as Norvina.
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina palette contains 7 shimmer shades and 7 mattes, giving you many options to create beautiful looks! Since it contains both cool and warm-toned shades, this palette would best suit someone with neutral undertones.
Shimmers
- Dreamer – Metallic pink champagne – Effervescent and subtle, this shade is perfect for adding light to your inner corner. Because of it’s flexibility, Dreamer was the first shade in this palette that I panned.
- Summer – Metallic foiled golden topaz – A reliable gold shimmer, Summer is a great choice for the middle of your lid or above your crease for a dramatic look.
- Wild Child – Duo-chrome frosty pink with a magenta shift – A sweet pink, this subtle shadow is versatile. I like to wear it in my inner corner when doing a dramatic pink look. I also often sweep it over my eyelid for a light everyday subtle shimmer.
- Rose Gold – Metallic rosewood – The worst shimmer of the bunch, metallic rosewood is beautiful to look at but frustrating to work with. When applied, it looks like a smudgy, dirty mess. Avoid.
- Celestial – Duo-chrome plum with a violet shift – A bold metallic purple, Celestial is my favorite shade in the palette. Celestial looks stunning swept across your eyelid for a feminine, yet bold effect.
- Dazzling – Duo-tone cool-toned bronze with a violet shift – A cool yet stunning shimmer, Dazzling is a complex shade that makes even the most simple eye makeup look dramatic. Like Celestial, Dazzling tops my list of all-time favorite shimmers.
- Drama – Duo-chrome aubergine with a cool bronze shift – Drama is a tricky shadow to work with. While blendable, Drama has a lot of fallout. Be careful while applying and watch how much shadow transfers onto your brush. Another note is that when I purchased my first ABH Norvina palette, Drama was the first shade to expire after only 6 months of use.
Mattes
- Base – Matte eggshell – Neutral and simple, this understated shade lives up to its name: it’s the perfect base for any eyeshadow look. Base looks beautiful swept across your eyelid for a matte day-to-day look. It also looks stunning underneath any of Norvina’s shimmers. You can even use it to highlight the underside of your brows for an extra pop.
- Soul – Matte wisteria – Soul is the color that made me purchase this palette. Pretty and unique, it is my go-to cool-toned eyeshadow shade. It looks stunning swept above your crease and pairs perfectly with Celestial.
- Incense – Matte dusty terracotta – A warm-toned neutral, be careful when using Incense. Incense looks lighter than expected when applied and wears off quickly. It’s not the best shade to rely on when crafting a long-lasting eyeshadow look.
- Love – Matte mid-tone cool pink – Like Incense, Love looks lighter than expected upon initial application. However, this color is both blendable and buildable, making it a fantastic base for any pink-toned eyeshadow look.
- Volatile – Matte warm charcoal – While Volatile is described as a warm shade by Anastasia Beverly Hills, it looks cool-toned when applied to my skin color. Regardless, Volatile has quickly become my favorite eyeshadow shade when creating a natural makeup eye look. Buildable and long-lasting, it’s easy to create a simple look using just Volatile, Base, and Passion.
- Eccentric – Matte dark burnt orange – I’m not the hugest fan of orange eyeshadows, so Eccentric is my least-worn shade in this palette. Despite that, it has a great formula that pairs well with Passion as well most of the shades in the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam palette.
- Passion – Matte deep garnet – Though Passion is described as being garnet-colored, it looks almost entirely like a cool brown shade when applied. Passion looks lovely paired with Eccentric, Volatile, or Love for an everyday matte look.
Formula
Pros: Overall, Norvina is both blendable and buildable. It’s easy to control the amount of color, allowing for flexibility between natural or dramatic looks.
Cons: The mattes in Norvina are on the powdery side. Make sure to tap your brush before applying to avoid fallout.
Wear Time
Wear time is tough to establish because it varies drastically depending on skin type, climate, and makeup application process. For example, eyeshadow tends to crease faster on oily skin over dry skin. Humidity can affect the longevity of makeup too.
The shimmers in Norvina tend to fade before they crease, lasting on average 3-4 hours before they need to be reapplied. If I plan on using a shimmer for an all-day look, I typically layer with Base or another matte to increase their durability.
However, the matte shades retain their pigment for 8+ hours. Soul creases the fastest at 4 hours, while Love can last over 11 hours with limited creasing. Every other matte shade creases between 6-8 hours with limited fading.
To further increase the lifespan of any eyeshadow look, try using an eyeshadow primer underneath your foundation or concealer. You can also spray your entire face with this setting spray to help your makeup last through the night.
Overall Impressions
Truth be told, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina palette is one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes of all time. It’s the only palette I’ve ever panned and repurchased before it expired. This is rare for me- I love experimenting with new colors of eyeshadow, so I never repurchase a product I’ve already used!
Another rare feature of Norvina is that it contains enough colors to create several distinct looks on its own without needing to incorporate colors from other eyeshadow palettes to feel complete. Since Norvina functions so well as a standalone, it has become my go-to travel palette. Norvina the only palette I bring with me on trips, saving valuable luggage space!
Because it’s so versatile, Norvina makes a great introduction to luxury beauty. If you like neutral eyeshadow but enjoy experimenting with colors from time to time, Norvina is the perfect palette for you!
