Two weekends ago I was attended the baby shower of one of my good friends. It was amazing to celebrate the upcoming birth of her daughter! I had so much fun meeting her family and seeing all of the cute decorations as well as all of the adorable baby clothes she received.
While most of the stress of a baby shower usually falls on the shoulders of the person planning it, it can be a little anxiety-inducing to decide what to wear to such an event. My go to rules for picking an outfit are as follows:
1. Dress fashionably, but don’t dress to be the center of attention.
This is a party to celebrate your loved one, not you! Don’t dress to be the center of attention. I remember one particular baby shower I attended where a guest showed up in a floor-length sequined gown- don’t be that girl.
2. A baby shower is not the place to show a ton of skin.
Keep in mind that while you and your circle may be comfortable in crop tops and short shorts, some of the Momma-to-be’s relatives could be more conservative. Someone else’s baby shower is not the right time to make a statement.
3. Don’t be afraid to dress feminine!
Many modern baby showers invite both men and women to join in the festivities, but many are more traditional and only include women. If you’re attending a girls-only shower, don’t be afraid to embrace your feminine side and wear something floral and feminine!
4. Err on the side of formal.
Most baby showers are relatively formal affairs. If you’re unsure about the dress code, choose an outfit that would be appropriate for an outdoor wedding!
All in all, choosing what to wear to a baby shower isn’t too complicated. Just make sure to relax, have fun, and enjoy celebrating the little bundle of joy and her new mom!
