Top 10 Makeup Products of 2021

Shay and a polished natural makeup look

If you’re anything like me, you love makeup but don’t like spending tons of money to try out different products. After all, makeup can be really expensive. It takes time and cash to find the best products for you, and not everyone wants to invest in that.

No worries, I got you! After years of experimenting with makeup, I’ve narrowed down my top 10 favorite products of all time. These are the items I always back to, and I’ll be keeping them stocked in my vanity for years to come!

10. NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil – Dragon Girl

I love a bold, red lip, and this red lipstick is my favorite of them all! It’s easy to apply, goes on smoothly, and lasts for hours. Plus, there’s no need for lip liner. What more could a girl ask for?

9. Smashbox Photo Finish Oil-Free Pore Minimizing Primer

Do you need your makeup to last for an entire day in 115 degree heat? This is the primer for you!

I discovered primer back when I was a student at Arizona State University. I worked at the mall after class and didn’t have time to get ready in between school and my shift. I was stuck doing my makeup early in the morning and hoping that it lasted 8 hours through the 115 degree heat.

Well, primer was my magic secret! I cycled between a few different primers until I discovered this beauty and I haven’t wanted to change since.

Post COVID-19, the Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer has once again become one of my staple products. The primer minimizes transfer of my foundation to my face mask, ensuring my makeup stays put.

8. Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

This setting powder from Laura Mercier is another holy grail item if you’re looking to help your makeup last on a hot day.

It absorbs both moisture and oil, making it a great choice if you plan on being active while wearing a full face of makeup. It also helps your foundation look more matte.

7. Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Palette

The OG Norvina Palette is fun and versatile, allowing you to create neutral, purple, and pink eyeshadow looks from a single palette.

I wouldn’t say that Norvina is my favorite eyeshadow palette of all time, but it’s definitely the one I reach for the most! I especially love to bring it when I travel. That way, I can create many looks without having to pack multiple palettes.

6. NYX Lip Pencil – Natural

The NYX Lip Pencil has a creamy texture, smooth application, and helps keep your lipstick from moving- even under a mask!

I own a few different shades of this pencil, but Natural is my favorite. It’s neutral hue matches many different shades of lipstick, making it the most versatile lip liner in my collection.

5. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer

While I use a few bronzers regularly, I use Too Faced’s Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer every time I do my makeup.

If I’m throwing on a quick/light makeup look, the Chocolate Soleil bronzer is the only one I use. For a full face of makeup, I use the Chocolate Soleil bronzer to blend my contour and to blend my foundation into my neck.

4. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer

In my opinion, Anastasia Beverly Hill’s brow products are the best on the market.

While Dipbrow is amazing (and lasts forever!), it creates a heavy look that doesn’t suit me. Brow Wiz is also pretty great, but I find that it takes a long time to apply and I go through it very quickly.

My current brow obsession is ABH’s Brow Definer. It combines the best of both Dipbrow and Brow Wiz to give your brows definition. It also strikes a delicate balance between natural and polished that just can’t be beat!

3. Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Mascara

I love trying out new mascaras. I’ve cycled through many from both drugstore and high-end brands, and nothing compares to Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Mascara.

I love that this mascara creates separation between your lashes without looking spidery. It also adds extra volume without clumps. Plus, it stays put all day long- even longer than many waterproof mascaras!

2. Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush – Exposed

Just like the Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer, I use Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed every time I do my makeup.

For light makeup days, I use a quick dusting of the blush to give my face some color. When I’m doing a full face of makeup, I use this blush as a base for other colors to make them look more natural.

The best part? This blush lasts FOREVER. I bought my current one 4 years ago and I still haven’t run out!

1. Tarte Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint – Delish

Need a lipstick that will last throughout a meal without needing to be touched up? Look no further!

Whenever I need a long-lasting lipstick, I always reach for a Tarte Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint. Delish is my favorite shade, but I have 10 different colors in this bad boy! (Can you tell I’m obsessed?)

This lipstick has become an absolute staple during quarantine. It barely transfers on to masks, making it a necessity for days when I need to shoot content in public.
