It’s not a secret that I’ve worn hair extensions for the past year and a half. Back when I was a senior at ASU, I had beautiful long, thick hair that was almost down to my waist. Unfortunately, I started to suffer from a few health issues that caused my hair to become thin and brittle. Coupled with a lack of sleep and the stress of working 2 jobs while going to school full time, my hair started to fall out in clumps. Try as I may, I wasn’t able to get it to grow back as thick as it used to be.
When I discovered hair extensions, I realized I could once again have the same long hair that I loved! I began to experiment with clip-in extensions. While they were easy to care for, I didn’t enjoy how long it took to style my hair with them in. Also, it was difficult to travel with clip-in extensions as they would often get tangled on long plane flights or in the wind. I wanted something that felt more natural.
This brought me to Natural Beaded Rows.
What are Natural Beaded Rows?
Natural beaded rows are a hair extension method that takes a “weft”, or section, of real human hair and attaches it to your natural hair by using a bead and string sewing technique. You can choose to add anywhere between 5-10 wefts depending on the look you want. Personally, I added 8 wefts to give my hair both extra volume and length.
How much do Natural Beaded Rows cost?
Prices average between $900-$2,500 depending on the salon or stylist. If you’re concerned about price, I’d recommend setting up a consultation before making any commitments.
How long do they take to apply?
The application process took a little less than two hours! However, my stylist Patty pre-dyed my wefts to match my hair before my appointment. If your stylist needs to dye the wefts while you’re there, your initial application appointment may take up to 5-6 hours.
Do Natural Beaded Rows damage your hair?
Unlike other methods of hair extensions, natural beaded rows do not apply any glue or heat to ensure that the wefts stay put. They are widely considered to be one of the least damaging methods of hair extensions on the market! They can even encourage hair growth in damaged hair.
Are they easy to maintain?
Yes! Every 6 to 8 weeks as your hair grows out, you’ll need to make an appointment to move them up.
As far as maintaining the life of the wefts themselves, make sure to regularly condition your extensions to prevent dryness and breakage. Keep an eye out for an upcoming hair care and maintenance post to learn my tips for healthy, beautiful hair!
Are they easy to wash and style?
Absolutely! When wearing clip-in extensions, I found it difficult to style my hair. My real hair didn’t blend to well with the clip-ins, so I had to curl them to hide that they didn’t match.
I have no difficulty styling my NBR extensions. Since they’re seamlessly blended in with my real hair, I have the freedom to style them any way I like! It’s difficult to tell where my real hair ends and my Natural Beaded Rows begin.
However, it will take longer to wash and dry your Natural Beaded Rows because there’s a lot more hair to work with. The good thing is that Natural Beaded Rows hold style longer than your natural hair, so you can get away with washing your hair less often!
Where did you get your extensions done?
I went to Patty Valdez at Hair by PV! If you live in Scottsdale, I highly recommend her. She did a fantastic job and I couldn’t be happier with the results!
