6. Love at First Like

While the concept of Love at First Like is a little over the top, author Hannah Orenstein does a fantastic job with character development. She takes main character Eliza Roth from a headstrong, selfish character and turns her into a compassionate character you can root for.

Romance novelist January Andrews arrives at her deceased father’s beach house in order to pack up his belongings. To January’s surprise, her former college nemesis Augustus Everett owns the beach house next door.

To determine who’s the better writer, Augustus or “Gus” challenges January to a competition: January has to write the next great American novel, while Gus has to write a romance novel, or the ultimate Beach Read.
