In June 2021, my boyfriend Stephen and I booked a spontaneous weekend at The Silver Legacy Resort & Casino in Reno, Nevada. After several weeks with long hours at work, we both wanted to spend a few days dining at great restaurants, lounging by the pool, and letting off some steam. The Silver Legacy Resort & Casino was a perfect fit!
Booking and Check-In
We arrived to the Silver Legacy Resort at around 3:30pm, which seemed to be a popular check-in time. Despite the long line, I waited less than 5 minutes before getting my room key. Check in was fast, simple, and painless- just the way I like it!
Amenities
During our stay at the Silver Legacy, my boyfriend and I booked a Dealers Deluxe Room with a single King bed. The décor was modern and simple. Amenities included two small chairs, a desk, TV, closet, dresser, and a Keurig machine for a quick morning coffee.
Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed in our bed. Hotel mattresses aren’t known for being comfortable, but the mattress in our room at The Silver Legacy was the most agonizing one I’ve ever slept on. I didn’t get more than 4.5 hours sleep per night during our stay. My boyfriend and I were both exhausted.
To make matters more uncomfortable, it was obvious that our duvet hadn’t been washed. It was covered with another woman’s makeup and random scribbles made in permanent marker. For discretion, the hotel staff covered our dirty duvet with a flat sheet. Sadly, the extra sheet didn’t make me forget that I was sleeping beneath bedding that hadn’t been properly cleaned.
The bathroom in our Deluxe Room was clean, modern, and well-stocked. The hotel provided us with plenty of extra towels, a hairdryer, and even a small extendable makeup mirror.
Another nice touch was that our bathroom was well lit. While staying at hotels, I often do my makeup in unusual locations to find good lighting. I’ve found myself doing my makeup at small desks in my room or even sitting on the floor in front of a closet mirror. I was happy that our bathroom had great lighting. It’s a small touch, but made my stay that much more comfortable.
Dining
The Silver Legacy offers a wide variety of on-site dining to fulfill many different tastes and preferences. From coffee shops to luxury steak dinners, the resort has something for everybody!
Sips Coffee and Tea
A cute coffee shop directly next to the hotel check-in, Sips Coffee and Tea provides fresh coffee, customizable espresso beverages, and tea. They also provided several fresh pastries for a quick breakfast and had fantastic service!
Café Central
If you’re looking for a sit-down meal at almost any time of the day, Café Central has got you covered! For breakfast, Café Central offers most traditional breakfast foods including pancakes, omelets, breakfast burritos, and more. On their lunch and dinner menu, Café Central branches out to serve Italian, American, Mexican, and Asian food.
When restaurants attempt to serve food from several different nationalities, their food usually ends up being a hot mess. For that reason alone, I chose not to eat at Café Central. The reviews on Yelp corroborate my decision.
Ruth’s Chris Steak House
You can’t have a casino in America without an onsite steak house!
Ruth’s Chris is well known across the country for serving delicious, high-quality steak dinners. Menu highlights include the classic Filet Mignon, the Garlic Crusted Sea Bass, and the Veal Osso Bucco Ravioli.
When traveling, I try to prioritize dining at restaurants that aren’t a part of national chains. I find that it allows me to better experience local culture. While Ruth’s Chris Steak House is fantastic, I chose to dine elsewhere during my stay at the Silver Legacy.
Starbucks
Can’t go a weekend without your staple Caramel Macchiato? Never fear, the Silver Legacy Resort and Casino has an onsite Starbucks! If that still isn’t enough caffeinated sugar for you, the resort next door has another Starbucks less than 5 minutes away.
Unfortunately, a few restaurants were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we didn’t get the opportunity to explore them during our stay. I was disappointed, because both the Pearl Oyster Bar and Grill and Canter’s Delicatessen looked delicious!
The Casino
The entrance to the casino floor was adorned with a large steampunk sculpture lit with neon lights. It was uniquely beautiful and did a great job capturing the casino’s hedonistic spirit.
In true Nevada fashion, the Silver Legacy casino had every game imaginable. Different sections of the casino were dedicated to different games. Slot machines were interspersed throughout the casino floor.
There were even a few unique machines. A section of slot machines gave patrons the chance to win a Tesla. There was also a machine called “Triple Double Bonus Poker.” It is unclear what exactly that means or how it differs from traditional poker.
Entertainment
The Silver Legacy Resort & Casino regularly plays host to world-famous comedians, bands, and other musicians. Post-pandemic, one of the resort’s sister properties Circus Circus also hosts regular carnival and circus performances.
The Silver Legacy is also home to The Laugh Factory, a chain of comedy clubs located in some of the largest cities in the US. During our stay, we thoroughly enjoyed a show starring Angelo Tsarouchas, Kristeen Von Hagen, and Noel Elgrably.
Spa
A luxury resort stay wouldn’t be complete without a spa day! The Spa at the Silver Legacy provides all of the standard spa treatments: massages, wraps, facials, scrubs, and more. Before your appointment, you can relax with a cocktail in the peaceful spa lounge.
The spa also has an onsite salon that provides hair, nail, and waxing services. They also sell a selection of luxury hair and beauty products just in case you forgot to pack a few essentials.
Overall Impression
Even though I had a fantastic time during my three days at the Silver Legacy Resort and Casino, I’m unlikely to book another visit. While The Silver Legacy was a 10/10 in terms of atmosphere, fun, and entertainment, I was too tired from the poor quality of my bed to fully enjoy myself. However, I would be happy to stay at either of the neighboring resorts instead! That way, I could enjoy all of the positives of The Silver Legacy without suffering through another night on one of their dreadful mattresses.
If you’re booking a stay at a resort/casino in Reno and want to maximize your time in the casino, attending shows, or listening to live music, I’d recommend staying at another one of the resorts on The Row. If you’re looking for a quieter vacation that emphasizes relaxing at the pool, fine dining, or spa treatments, I’d recommend a weekend at The Peppermill Resort & Casino.
